A surgical technologist assists surgeons and other medical professionals in hospital operating rooms and similar environments. Chiefly, they prepare patients, rooms and equipment for pending surgical procedures. They also assist during those procedures as part of a team of operating room professionals.

During surgery, surgical technologists pass sterile surgical equipment, such as scalpels and forceps, to surgeons. They also might cut sutures, keep track of items like sponges and needles, operate lights and help dress patient's wounds.

Education Requirements: Graduate of Surgical Technologist Program

Surgical nursing is a nursing specialty requiring a distinct set of skills and knowledge through specialized education and training. The RN plans and performs all nursing care for patients who will undergo surgery and other invasive procedures.

They provide nursing care from assessment to outcome evaluation. With this role, the Surgical RN is usually the single advocate for patient safety during operative procedures.

Education Requirements: Bachelor or Associate of Nursing Degree

Anesthesia Technicican
Anesthesia technicians support the anesthesia team throughout the hospital. A few of their duties include preparing the anesthesia gas machines for daily use, providing hands on support, restocking supplies after procedures, and ordering supplies.

High school diploma required.

Prior experience in the healthcare setting is preferred but not required.
OR Scheduler

OR schedulers schedule patient procedures, as well as coordinate operating rooms, schedules of surgeons, and assistants needed for each procedure.

High school diploma required.

Prior experience in the healthcare setting is preferred but not required.
Sterile Processing Technician
Sterile processing technicians ensure medical instruments are properly inspected, cleaned, and sterilized for use in the operating room, and across a hospital.

High school diploma required.

Prior experience in the healthcare setting is preferred but not required.

Surgical Attendant
Surgical attendants assist in the preparation of the operating room for each procedure, assist with positioning the patient, and all other duties to the support the operating room team.

High school diploma required.
